RE: who else??

My response to them (last night) was that the cost of everything else is keeping pace and I still get to sleep on my own bed.

RE: how much do you trust the next guy?

Only problem I've heard of locally was some campers teens going through coolers for beer at the local KOA a coupl years back. Have never had any bad experiences myself.

RE: Camp Fire Etiquette???

If I am leaving wood I usually ask a neighbor if they want it. One particular CG we stay at the owners get mad when we bring our own wood and leave it because it cuts into their sales. This is a high profit item for this particular cg because I know he can buy a dump truck load of cut to length scraps $15.00 plus his time to haul it and then sells small armloads for $4.00 each which I consider to be a rip off. One needs several bundles to have a decent fire for a couple of evenings. We bring real firewood from home and lots of it. No worry about the beetle problem because we're within 50 miles.

RE: What If?

I've done it toavoid a line at the main drop site. One concern a CG owner may have is that the individual sites may not have the capacity to deal with a large influx of effluent. It depends on the park but I know in one that the full hook up sites had individual little systems as opposed to the main dump site that had a large holding tank and drain field. One person dumping would not matter but if 3 or 4 hit it back to back it could become a problem.

RE: Woodpecker Racket...!!

It's that time of the year for woodpeckers, they are doing mating calls. We have a few in the area, one is pecking on the house at about 5:30 a.m. for the past week. His life is going to come to an abrupt halt if he keeps it up...

RE: NJ to Minnesota, avoid Chicago?

I second the I-39 to I-90 route. Going all the way to I-35 in Iowa would be a waste of time and money.

RE: Ants

That is why I spray the ties, jacks, electrical cord, water hose every time we set up.
I was spraying everything but the cord and was still getting them and could not figure it out....
Hopefully this will safe somebody else the frustration if they read this. Thanks for your replies!

Ants

Discovered today that my dang black ants are climbimng into my camper on my power cord. Never considered that last year when I sprayed. Caught em red handed today and hopefully that will solve the issue.

RE: SW FLORIDA TO BIRMINGHAM, AL

We drove across 82 last fall in a small van and I did not care for it at all. I would not want to pull my 5er accross it. In Alabama it was like an average county road in places. It seemed like it took forever to get to I-75 and we were still in Geogia.
The year before when we went down, We went down through Dothan on 231 to I-10 and caught 19 just east of Talahassee and followed that down to Chiefland and then took 27 over to Ocala to I-75. That was a nice drive and quite a bit was 4 lane that was uncrowded.

RE: Durango RR Trip

Get an open car. You can see SO MUCH better. We stayed in an RV park in Silverton just off the main drag in town. Can't remember the name. Or, you can drive through town toward Animas Forks (ghost town) and boobdock. There's a really nice spot and we've seen lots of people there. Or, drive north of Silverton to Ouray or Ridgeway. There's a really nice state park, Dutch Charlie, north of Ridgeway.
What's Boobdocking??? LOL!!! Is that like parking overnight in the lot at a adult club or something??? :@
Just kidding, one little typo got a good chuckle :)

RE: Engineer's Day:27 June; Soo Locks

Go over to Boatnerd.com and they have events planned around the day. Lots to see and learn there on great Lakes Shipping. From what I've read it is worth the trip imho.

RE: Global Positioning Navigators

From what I understand with the Garmins and TomTom's, The Garmin mapping is better for rural settings and the TomTom maps are better for urban settings. One way streets are an issue with some although I don't know how extensive that issue is. I've had a Garmin 330 for many years and used it more for off highway stuff than on. It has saved me a couple times out on the road where I just "winged" a turn based on the sun's position and my internal compass. The 330 was also fun on a recent trip on an airliner showing our position and speed. Whenever I fly I always get a window and wonder what I'm looking at below, The Garmin solved that problem.

RE: You know a RVer didn't design it when......

Would these be the same designers that put the TV antenna crank over the middle of the bed ?!
Yep, the same ones who put it on the ceiling above the slideout so you can't reach it without a stool if you forget to drop the antenna before you pull the slide in... :h

RE: AC Land Power Cable Theft

The scrap companies that buy these materials should be charged in some instances... Stolen Manholes covers, railroad iron, heavy cable freshly cut from a cell tower(Duluth MN), brand new spools of copper wire from job sites. What are they thinking when these thiefs bring in their booty. one of the scrap yards in my regions hates cops because they are constanty going in and recovering stolen goods that the yard purchases. One would think they would learn. Maybe we need to regulate/license the sale of scrap materials... I hate to think of more government but these cases are causing serious problems that could result in serious harm to the public. ( I don't care when theiefs fry themselves)

RE: Repo'd RVs

I would shy away from a repossessed unit unless I knew who owned it. My logic is that if someone is careless enough to let their finances get to the point where they lose their unit, what kind of maintenance have they performed on it?
Just a thought....

RE: wal mart situation

WHO CARES!!! If someone wants to stay there, let them. I beleive it is a part of our wonderful free enterprise system that our country was founded on. If a business wants to let you park there, good for all of us. Truck stops have been doing it with big rigs forever. What's the difference between the truckers and RVer's. Both are on the road and need a place to pull up for the night and get some rest before they continue on their travels the next day.
As far as local CG owners missing on business, too bad. Most campgrounds are a destination and not a stop along the way. I personsally don't think they want guests checking in late making noise and then getting up and leaving early in the morning. I know if I am camping I prefer having peace and quiet. We've seen plenty of threads with gripes about noisy campers and this does not help that situation.
Unless someone is personally impacted by this I believe they should mind their own business and not stress themselves with things they cannot control.

RE: What do you think?

I travel with mine on and run the refrigerator while we are on the road. I don't sweat the small stuff. I've seen lots of crashes and can't recall a propane tank ever blowing up. Too many other things to be concerned with.

RE: to 5er from a tt or not?

Shop around and take your time. It's becoming a buyers market so you should be able to work a good deal on what you like. Never had a TT and don't care for them. A couple friends have them and they seem crammed to me. I think you get more space and privacy in a 5er. I love the large slide out on ours.

RE: 5th wheel hitch well behind rear axle... photo

Go to the RV.NET blog and check out the video over there under the 5th wheel section. One of the comments made was that towing with a hitch mounted rear of the axle is like towing a TT without the sway bars. I realize this may be a CG vehicle but others with short boxes are trying this, not to this extreme but behind the axle...
